2025 Topps Star Wars Masterworks
Here we go, another product where I don’t feel comfortable jumping in with a bunch of commentary as the Star Wars Universe is not one I’ve spent much time in. But I feel like there is some value to the numbers analysis so I’ll keep this one short and try to let the numbers do the talking.
At the time I’m starting this, the window for the Masterwork EQL opens in less than 20 minutes, so I’ll try to keep this short and sweet in case anyone cares to use the numbers to help them make a pre-order decision.
At a high level, not much looks different from prior years. Masterwork feels like what it’s always been: a premium, niche product aimed at the more dedicated Star Wars crowd. And to be fair, there’s some legitimately cool stuff in here. Sketch cards, film cels, on-card autos. I get the appeal.
Pre-order pricing was just announced at $430/box. I’m not prepared to be too critical of this number considering last year’s product is currently selling for $800-$900/box, so $430 might actually be a decent price.
Boxes have similar dynamics to last year- 4 mini-boxes per hobby boxes with 5 cards in each.
Total cards in product:
268,650
Total boxes produced:
Hobby- 13,433 (1,679 cases)
Base production:
~12,030 ea
Hit Rates per Box:
Autos- 2.65 (This product typically claims 2 autos per hobby box. The math says there should be more than that. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see an extra auto in a noticeable number of these boxes.)
Parallels- 3.4 (does not include inserts, autos, or relics)
Inserts- 13.1
Numbered cards- 4.1 (does not include autos or relics)
Sketches- 1
Relics- 0.5
There are blue parallels that don’t appear to be numbered, which explains the difference between the numbered cards and parallels per box.
Value Map:
$/card- $22.00
$/parallel- $131.17
$/auto- $166.33
$/# card- $107.89
I’m not seeing parallels structures posted on any of the checklist sites yet, so here’s what that looks like:
Base & Relics:
Green /99
Purple /50
Red /25
Orange /10
Black /5
Gold /1
Inserts:
Rainbow Foil /299
Canvas /25
Wood /10
Metal /5
Gold Metal /1
Autos (I have to assume these remained consistent with last year, though the numbers are wonky which indicates a significant amount not inserted into the product. Please be aware, this does NOT throw off hit rates. It just means that if every single expected auto were dispersed into the product, then the hit rates would be significantly more dense than advertised.)
Blue Foil /99
Rainbow Foil /50
Canvas /25
Wood /10
Silver Framed /5
Gold Framed /1
So what’s the verdict?
I’m going to let you decide that for yourself. This product seems to consistently end up at a higher price point than which it was released. And there are reasons why. I’d say it’s a pretty safe buy if you can get it at release pricing. The fact that it’s an EQL drop would seem to back that up. Topps doesn’t typically do that for lousy product....except 2025 Logofractor baseball. But that’s a different story entirely.
I’m a sucker for Sketches in these types of products. I would much rather have a hand-drawn sketch done by an actual artist for the franchise than a quickly scrawled autograph. And Masterworks has a ton of sketches...one per box. It’s hard to pinpoint print runs on the different parallels of sketches- Book Cards, Panoramic Cards, and Triptych Cards- since they are not indicated on the checklist. But they are scarce, which I’ll indicate in the print run section.
For autos fans, there are some huge names on the checklist, and apparently some that are first-time signers. Becket gives a nice rundown of those if you’re interested.
There are some killer Inserts & Relics including actual Film Cels, Metal cards, & Buybacks from previous years. None of this is new for the product, but I can see that there’s a lot to like here for fans of the franchise.
